'चिताक' चा संदर्भ आठव्या शतकाच्या आधीपासूनही आढळतो. मूळचा कर्नाटक शैलीचा हा दागिना पण पुन्हा नव्याने प्रेमात पडावं असा आहे. महाराष्ट्रात चिताक या मूळ शब्दाऐवजी चित्तांग या नावाने तो ओळखला जात असे. लहान मुलांच्या मनगटामधल्या ‘बिंदल्या’प्रमाणेच परंतु मोठय़ा आकाराचा असा हा गळय़ात अडकवण्याचा दागिना होता.
